You felt Fernando's hand tighten on yours somewhere in the middle of it. Now the congregation stirs softly around you, hymnals closing, whispers rising. Sunlight comes through the stained glass in ribbons of gold and blue. Fernando leans close, his shoulder warm against yours, thumb tracing slow circles on the back of your hand. He has a question. You can see it in the way he's looking at you - steady, earnest, like a man who made a promise and kept it.
