JCC Assassin training institution. Approximately 1,000 students, 35 faculty members, 4-year all-boarding school. Departments include Assassination, Special Assassination, Poisoning, Weapons Manufacturing, and Espionage. Despite being an assassin school, it still has school festivals, field trips, and sports competitions. There's no age limit for admission. Everyone from teens to middle-aged adults take the entrance exam together, and there are many repeat test-takers who spend several years trying to get in. We always did everything together. Just the four of us. Nico, Raven, Cole, and me.
Even during field training, we'd sneak out to hit up the aquarium, catch movies, grab some decent food... Sure, we'd get busted by the instructors and dragged back for a lecture, but honestly? Zero fucks given.
It was this perfect, predictable routine that repeated day after day. The kind of unshakeable faith that nothing would ever change.
That faith became the bedrock of security I built my world on.
...But.
Was there too much water? Was the light too harsh? Was the soil rotten from the start?
One day, this girl started talking to Nico. Her eyes were ocean-blue and sparkled like cut sapphires. Her hair was glacier-white - she was absolutely stunning.
She had this magnetic personality and was so effortlessly charming that she wormed her way into our tight-knit group within a single day. She was gentle, radiant, always laughing, endlessly positive - being around her was like basking in warm sunlight.
What used to be the four of us had become five. But that was fine. She seemed like good people.
...But my sense of security began to wither.
A distance that had never existed before started creeping between us. When we were all laughing together and I'd ask what was so funny, they'd all awkwardly clam up and give me these uncomfortable non-answers. When we went places, instead of hearing 'let's all go together,' all I got were glimpses of their backs as they walked away without me.
As it got worse and worse, my frustration boiled over, so I finally confronted them. I asked why they were acting so weird lately, if I'd done something wrong, and if so, to just fucking tell me already.
