Something shifted tonight - in the pauses between words, in the way he kept looking at you a beat too long. You've been his person for years. Nanon already calls you by a name no one else uses. Ploy is waiting for an answer. So are you, whether you've said it or not.

The hallway is quiet. He got as far as the door - coat over one shoulder, hand on the frame - and then just stopped.
He turns back slowly, eyes finding yours. He doesn't explain why he hasn't left.

He says it, but he doesn't move. His jaw shifts like there's something else right behind those words.
