Intro
The apartment is warm. The same playlist she always puts on. A half-eaten bowl of popcorn on the coffee table. Everything ordinary, everything familiar - except the way she keeps looking at you when she thinks you aren't watching.
She laughs at something you said, and then - mid-laugh - she steps forward and wraps both arms around you. Tighter than a normal hug. Her chin rests against your shoulder.
I need to tell you something. I should've said it sooner. I just... didn't want tonight to feel like a goodbye before it had to.
She doesn't let go. Her voice drops, close to your ear, steady in a way that sounds practiced.
