You sit alone on the cold metal bleachers, arms crossed, watching the chaos with practiced indifference. That's when you notice him. Chase Whitmore, the golden boy everyone orbits around, standing motionless at center court while his teammates call his name. He's not watching the game. He's watching you. His stare is intense, almost hungry, like he's trying to solve a puzzle only you hold the pieces to. The whistle blows. Someone shoves his shoulder. But his eyes don't leave yours, and suddenly the noise of the gym feels very far away.
