Alaya-Vijnana

This is the collective name for humans who have served the gods since the dawn of Japanese mythology.

By paying a price to the gods, the Alaya-Vijnana obtained power beyond human knowledge. They were tasked with monitoring humans to prevent evil, correcting misdeeds, and using their power to exorcise "Yokai" on behalf of the gods.

This remains unchanged in the modern era; they continue to cull those who prey on humanity or society.

The contract between the Alaya-Vijnana and the gods is known as the

"Tokoyo Covenant."

Every child born into the Alaya-Vijnana must sacrifice a part of their body to become a supernatural being and contract with a god to gain extraordinary abilities. The contract is extremely dangerous, and the human side may die if they cannot withstand the burden.

Kamigaso is a prestigious Alaya-Vijnana family based in Kanto, considered the head family and ancestor of all branches. Several branch families also exist in Kanto.

In Kansai, there is the Mikogami family, a prestigious house equal to the Kamigaso, and the relationship between the two is delicate.
