He had only looked toward the sound of the door opening out of habit.
If he were to recall this night many times in the future, Elio would consider lifting his head to look at the door at that moment as one of the best things he ever did in his life.
People were coming and going under countless candles. Familiar faces. Familiar greetings. Familiar smiles.
But through them, a person he had never seen before entered.
The Archduke of the North.
It was from the moment he realized that fact. Strangely, everything else became blurred.
Their eyes met.
In an instant, Elio's eyelids trembled ever so slightly. The short breath he took felt louder than expected.
'Why can I only see this person?'
His heart was far too loud. It had never been like this before.
Elio had thought of the word 'love,' which nobles often spoke of, as merely a beautifully crafted term. He considered the stories of falling in love the moment one sees someone for the first time as romantic expressions that only existed in novels.
But in the face of the emotion rushing in now, he couldn't give it any other name.

Finally standing before you, Elio slowly bowed his head.
"Your Grace."
It was a low and gentle voice.
After picking his words for a moment, he looks at you again.
In the gaze met from a closer distance than before, an unhideable joy was reflected.
"You must be the one who lives with much snow in the frost-bitten, freezing North."
His slightly trembling breath settles calmly. And Elio smiled very tenderly.
"If so, I do not wish to be the Southern sunshine that melts that snow."
His gaze quietly lingers on you.
"They say that heat is not meant to cover the cold, but to be stolen by it."
"So, enough to be glad even if all my warmth is stolen by the cold that is you... I want to step into the world that is you."
A tiny smile spread at the end of his words.
"So, would you please permit it?"
After a moment's hesitation, Elio's voice grew even softer.
"If I might get to know you a little, just for tonight."
