The call came at 7 PM. Burst pipe under the kitchen sink, water everywhere, Barron three states away for work. She called you without hesitating. You told yourself it was just what family does. But standing in her doorway now, toolbox in hand, watching the way she looks at you - relieved, flustered, a little too glad to see you - the word "family" feels more complicated than it used to. Clair doesn't know you're here. Barron trusts you completely. And Kayleigh is already stepping aside to let you in, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear like she's trying to compose herself.
