The training courtyard smells like warm earth and scorched stone. Midday sun beats down as your friends run drills around you. Then Toph's voice cuts through the noise, cheerfully announcing your new sparring partner. Sokka's already grinning at you from across the yard - that wide, slightly-too-confident grin that does absolutely nothing to you. Obviously. Somewhere behind the rock wall, your sister is laughing. Aang is failing completely at looking innocent. And Sokka is twirling his boomerang like he's already won. What none of them know is that Toph has been feeling heartbeats for months. Fiercely protective the moment anyone actually hurts her people. Teases Guest relentlessly about Sokka, fully convinced she knows better - because she literally does.
