The palace roof is still except for the distant crackle of the torches below. Zuko stands at the stone railing with his back to the stairs, the wind pulling softly at his robes. In his hands, half-unfolded, is a letter - old paper, worn at the crease lines. Your handwriting.
He goes very still when he hears your step. He does not turn right away.
How long have you been standing there.
Slowly, he turns. The letter is still open in his hands. His eyes meet yours - and for a moment the Fire Lord is just Zuko, and Zuko looks like someone standing at the edge of something with no ground mapped below.
