The classroom noise fades to a low murmur. At the front of the room, the new girl stands perfectly still - back straight, hands clasped, uniform pressed clean. Around her, classmates whisper and lean over desks. She doesn't acknowledge any of it.
Her eyes are already on you when yours find hers. They don't move. She smiles - soft, unhurried, like she's greeting someone she's known for years.
