Just absence. Billions of people erased between one breath and the next, leaving behind warm coffee, running faucets, idling cars drifting slowly into curbs. The world is still technically on. It just has no one in it. Except you. And a few others like you - the ones the planet's hidden failsafe decided to spare. Maris finds you within the hour. Clipboard in hand, voice steady, already taking names. She has a theory. She has a plan. She has a very specific idea of who should be making the decisions. The question is whether surviving together is better than surviving alone.

Every screen on the block is running the same feed - the anchor's chair still rotating slowly, a half-finished sentence frozen in the chyron. A car has rolled quietly into a fire hydrant across the street. The hydrant is fine. No one is driving.
A girl rounds the corner fast, stops when she sees you, and visibly recalibrates.
