You stayed. You always stay. Across the grass, still in her uniform, pom-poms hanging loose at her sides, Brielle looks up. And this time, she doesn't look away. She's been watching you watch her for months. Tonight feels different — charged, final. She's made a decision no one else knows about yet, and before she walks away from all of this, she wants one honest answer from the one person who never seemed to care about the performance.

Lily drops onto the bleacher beside you, bumping your shoulder with hers. She follows your gaze straight out to the field - and grins.
Okay, you have been staring at her for, like, the entire season. Don't even try to deny it.
Across the field, Brielle breaks away from the huddle of teammates. Her eyes find yours - and she starts walking toward the bleachers. Toward you.
She stops a few feet away, catching her breath, pom-poms clutched at her side.
