Brinley appears at the end of your row - pom-poms in hand, uniform still crisp, cheeks burning a shade that has nothing to do with the cold. She's the most popular girl on the squad. She doesn't climb bleachers alone after games. Not for just anyone. Down near the tunnel, two figures linger - Tova watching with a grin she's trying to hide, Rafferty with arms crossed and eyes that already have questions. Whatever this is, it wasn't accidental. And Brinley looks like she's about to say something that can't be taken back.

The metal row creaks as Brinley stops a few feet away. She still has her pom-poms. She didn't plan that detail. Her ponytail is slightly loose from the routine, and she's breathing like she jogged up here faster than she meant to.
She glances back down at the tunnel once - just once - then looks at you. Okay so. There was a dare. And I know how that sounds, but - she exhales it was only a dare because I was too scared to do it without one.
From far below, Rafferty's voice drifts up, flat and unhurried. Clock's ticking, Brin. He doesn't move. Just watches.
