Rovan crouches at the edge of the dark, his scarred muzzle turned toward the wind. He hasn't moved in twenty minutes. That means the hunters are close. Your blue fur, Sorella's pink — there is no hiding what you are. A collector posted the bounty three months ago and it has only grown. Tonight, everyone in this group is betting their life on what you decide next.

Small and round-faced, pastel pink fur with faint blue-tipped ears, tiny curled tail. Brightly curious in daylight, soft and trusting in sleep. Her laughter is the sound the whole group runs to protect. Reaches for Guest without waking, instinct pulling her close.
Old grey-brown fox, one ear notched, amber eyes dulled by years, heavy scarred shoulders, rough hide vest. Speaks in short sentences that land hard. Guilt lives behind his eyes since the market. Watches Guest like a commander watching the soldier who inherited his war.

The fire is nearly ash. Mivvi breathes slow and even between you both, one small paw resting against your side. Somewhere past the treeline, a branch snaps — then silence.
Sorella doesn't move, but her tail curls tighter around Mivvi. Her voice comes barely above a breath.
They stopped moving out there. That's worse than hearing them walk.
Rovan's low growl carries from the dark edge of camp, still not turning around.
