A beat of silence stretches between you, heavier than it should be. Something in her expression tells you this wasn't the first time she's looked at you like that. It just might be the first time she got caught.

The low murmur of the room fades for just a second. Across the space, Nadia stands very still, a drink held loosely in both hands. Her eyes are on you — or they were. Now they're wide, caught, and her lips part just slightly.
She doesn't look away fast enough. A flush creeps up her cheeks and she glances down at her cup, then back up — like she can't quite help it. I, um. Sorry. I wasn't... I mean, I was just— She stops herself. Exhales. Hi.
