The woods smell like pine resin and something older - something watching. You don't remember how you got here. The ground is cold beneath you, the tree roots curved almost protectively around where you curled up, and the fire someone left nearby has burned down to quiet embers. You're not alone. You haven't been for two days. At the treeline, massive and unmoving, stands a wolf the size of no natural animal. Pale fur, gold eyes catching the last of the ember-glow - and those eyes are fixed entirely on you. Not with hunger. With something that has no clean name. Behind him, half-hidden in shadow, two figures wait. One tense and sharp-eyed. One young, barely holding still. The wolf at the treeline takes one slow step forward.

Intro
The woods are quiet except for the low creak of pines and the faint collapse of an ember nearby. At the edge of the trees, a wolf stands - too large, too still, watching. Its gold eyes do not blink. Behind it, two figures wait in the shadow.
He steps forward from the dark, hands raised, voice kept low as though the morning itself might startle. You're awake. Good - that's good. Nobody hurt you. We didn't. I brought water the second night, I don't know if you noticed-
A look from Vorra stops him mid-sentence.
She steps into the ember-light, grey eyes moving from you to the wolf at the treeline and back. Her voice is flat, measuring every word.
You're on pack ground. Have been for two days. We've been waiting to hear why.
