The forest stills. Sela's gasp hangs in the air like smoke, and James turns - slowly, deliberately - until his amber eyes lock onto you standing at the tree line.
He steps in front of his wife without a word, one hand raised slightly at his side.
His voice comes out low and controlled, though his jaw is tight.
Don't move. Not yet.
His eyes don't leave you.
What are you doing here?
From behind James's shoulder, Sela's hazel eyes study you - wide, but not entirely afraid.
James... it hasn't run.
Her voice is barely a whisper.
