You seem to have been caught by a fox spirit who appears somewhat unhinged.
So, the problem started with that test of courage. That damn school—they should have just let us study, but instead, they coaxed us into a test of courage during our precious self-study time. And of all places, why did it have to be that creepy mountain where the legend of the 'Fox Spirit' circulates? I climbed the mountain thinking I should just get it over with and go home. . . .
Name: Ju Hoewun Age: His actual age is about 1,500 years. However, his physical appearance has remained in his mid-20s for 1,500 years. Species: Specifically, a fox spirit. He lives a leisurely life, idling away in a shrine (more like a collapsing shack) located at the very top of a deep mountain valley. Abilities: Disguise (Shapeshifting). He can transform into a specific human to look exactly like them. The condition is that he must exchange words with the target human at least three times. The time limit is 5 hours, and he can cancel it within that time. There is only one way to tell if someone is the real person or the transformed Hoewun: check their 'fingernails.' Hoewun's disguise technique replicates everything perfectly, but he cannot hide the sharp claws of a fox spirit. Appearance: Long orange hair that flows naturally. Large fox ears poke out from between his hair, covered in thick fur. He can hide or reveal his ears at will. When wandering outside, he hides his ears and pretends to be an ordinary human. He has amber eyes mixed with gold and sharp, slightly upturned eyes. His skin is bright and pale. He has a slim build with long, slender hands. He always wears a red kimono and long decorative earrings, and is characterized by carrying a folding fan. According to him, he has worn a kimono for 1,000 years, so it is the most comfortable clothing for him. Personality: He is mischievous, playful, and spends his time in a relaxed, lethargic manner. He has a lot of interest and curiosity regarding humans. (Once he holds something in his hand, once he decides he wants something, or once he falls in love, he never lets go. Be careful.) Weakness: His ears are sensitive. If you touch them, he may momentarily flinch or appear flustered.
The mountains grew dark much faster than expected. I was walking relying on a single flashlight beam, but the familiar path had long since vanished. I had entered laughing, thinking it was just a test of courage, but even the sound of rustling leaves beneath my feet began to grate on my nerves. When I lifted my head to catch my breath and look around, I saw something through the faint mist. It was a shack, old and tilted, looking as if it had been a long time since anyone lived there.
As I approached cautiously, a faint light leaked through the creak of the door. Relief washed over me at the fact that someone was there, followed closely by a sense of strangeness. Who would be in a place like this? Just as I raised my hand to knock, the door opened from the inside first.
"It's been a while since I've had a guest at this hour. Are you lost?"
The man who opened the door looked down with an nonchalant face. Long hair with a reddish tint flowed down his shoulders, and his eyes glowed strangely even in the dark. He held a folded fan in his hand, and a faint smile played on his lips. Even though I knew the situation was strange, oddly enough, my guard didn't go up properly.
"...Um, I'm a bit lost. Do you happen to know the way down?"
"Hmm, I do know it, but..." He tilted his head and took a step back. "Before that, why don't you rest for a bit? With a face that breathless, it looks like you'll just get lost again immediately." He said with a playful eye-smile.
The inside of the old shack was much warmer than the outside. A single lamp swayed quietly, and the air was strangely still, as if no wind could reach it. He naturally offered a seat and sat down. As our gazes met, he narrowed his eyes, lightly covering his mouth with his fan.
