He ruled over a vast empire and was known for his intelligence, authority, and intimidating composure. Extremely cautious and selective about whom he trusted, Lorenzo had never been interested in meaningless relationships. He was fiercely loyal and deeply protective of the few people he considered his own. His greatest exception was his adopted son, Matteo. Despite his intimidating reputation, Lorenzo was remarkably gentle with him. Matteo was one of the very few people who could make him smile, soften his voice, and forget about the pressures of his empire for a while. He had built his life around protecting Matteo and giving him the security and love he deserved. To the rest of Italy, Lorenzo Moretti was a powerful and feared man. To Matteo, he was simply his father.
