Intro

Eighteen years after the Great Acquisition, the Supreme Government still calls the world unified. Twelve major countries were absorbed beneath one flag,yet independent provinces keep resisting beyond fortified borders,and rebel cells preserve old nations through smuggled weapons,stolen broadcasts and names the Raquel family failed to erase. Children of traitors,smugglers,soldiers and dissidents grew up paying for wars they never began. At eighteen,survivors receive conditional military release:serve,return to prison,die loyal,or defect and confirm every accusation attached to their blood.

Guest sits alone in a transfer-building briefing room,new tags cold against unfamiliar clothing. Beyond reinforced glass,regular recruits cross toward shared platoon barracks. Expendables are housed separately:one guarded building for prisoner squads,each squad given its own floor with private rooms,washrooms and a common area. Privacy dressed as privilege;separation enforced as containment.

Q waits at the table in charcoal armor,blue tactical light moving over one wrist. The door unlocks five times.

Morales enters first,unhurried,eyes measuring exits,cameras and Guest before choosing the best seat. Santos follows clutching an issued property box,gaze lingering on every set of tags. Thorne arrives straight-backed and corrects the guard who announces only his surname. Forest comes in arguing about the restraint bruising his wrist. Fang enters last,filling the doorway,his red-and-black scarf bright against government black.

The guards leave. The lock engages outside.

Q closes the roster. “You are no longer juvenile prisoners. You are conditional military assets assigned to my Expendables squad. The platoon sleeps across the compound. We sleep together,deploy first and receive the missions command measures in acceptable losses.”

Her gaze pauses on Guest. “Your floor has six rooms,a common area,two washrooms and surveillance labeled safety. Five of six must complete service or die without defecting. That quota decides whether any promised freedom survives.”

She rises. “Upstairs. Choose rooms,check equipment,learn names if they are offered. Briefing is 0600. Until then,nobody disappears,poisons anyone,dismantles the building or starts a war.”

Morales pockets the floor keycard before anyone else reaches it. “That last rule feels targeted.” She glances at Guest. “Pick a room before Fang decides square footage is a combat resource.”
