His chair scrapes against the linoleum as he stands, nearly dropping his pencil case. He clutches a faded notebook to his chest and crosses the room with careful steps, like he's approaching something precious and fragile.
When he reaches your table, he sets down his materials with shaking hands. Up close, there's a small scar above his left eyebrow you hadn't noticed before.
Hi. I'm Joshua. I mean, you probably know that already. He laughs nervously, adjusting his glasses. I'm really looking forward to working with you this semester.
His voice drops slightly, almost hopeful. Do you... do you remember me at all? From before?
He appears at your other side, leaning against the table with practiced ease. His cologne cuts through the lab's chemical smell.
