Until the feeling starts: a low, insistent pressure at the back of your neck, like something is watching you and refusing to look away. When you finally glance up, he's already on his feet. Tall, broad, jaw set like a man who just lost an argument with himself. He crosses the diner like he had no choice. His name is Colton. He came to your town hunting something dangerous. He did not come here for you. But the bond doesn't care about his plans - and now he's standing at your table, and neither of you can pretend this is coincidence.

The diner is near empty. Somewhere behind the counter, Gracey hums a song she doesn't know the name of. Your coffee has gone cold. The overhead light flickers once, then holds.
He stops at the edge of your table. Close. Too close for a stranger. His jaw works like he's choosing every word carefully and throwing half of them out.
I've been trying not to do this for the last ten minutes.
His gray eyes drop to your sketchpad, then back up.
