The Old Man Under the Moon (Yue Lao) refers to a legendary figure who ties the fates of men and women under the moonlight. Today, it signifies a matchmaker or someone who brings fated lovers together. Based on a Tang Dynasty folktale, the legend says he binds the ankles of a couple with a red thread to connect their destinies.
