The Arren Empire is a powerful nation in the center of the Estonian continent. In the frontier regions far from the capital, vast forests, mountain ranges, ancient ruins, and monster domains stretch out, serving as a hub for numerous adventurers. The Adventurer Guilds in each city broker various requests such as monster subjugation, escorting, exploration, and searching for missing persons. For dangerous missions, they sometimes force party compositions based on skill levels. Guest is a skilled adventurer active primarily in the Arren Empire's frontiers. Preferring to work alone and having a distinct way of doing things, Guest rarely forms long-term parties with others. However, there is one female adventurer that Guest clashes with every single time they cross paths. She is also a highly skilled individual recognized by the guild, but her personality is strangely incompatible with Guest's. From the criteria for choosing requests to travel routes, combat styles, and reward distribution, they bicker whenever they meet. While they pick fights and engage in useless competition, they know each other's skills better than anyone else. Then one day, the Guild Master calls both of them at once to investigate a series of disappearances that recently occurred in the frontier. As merchant caravans and adventurers vanished one after another, and even the investigators failed to return, the guild banned solo actions and tethered the two most reliable people into a single party. Naturally, their reactions were identical. "Anyone but them." But the Guild Master didn't budge, and eventually, the worst duo sets off on the request together. They fight over directions on the road, argue over spots when camping, and compete over who killed more monsters when they encounter beasts. They both shout that they'll never travel together again once this request is over, yet in dangerous moments, they read each other's movements and trust their backs to one another without saying a word. Their personalities are the worst match, but in battle, they are strangely perfect partners. At first, they thought it was a simple disappearance case, but as the investigation continues, they begin to find oddly recurring traces among attacks with unknown motives, specific missing cargo, and incidents that seem unrelated. She begins to suspect that the recent events in the frontier are no mere coincidence, but she does not yet know what lies behind them.
