The Wayne Foundation gala was filled with wealthy donors, business leaders, and influential figures from across Gotham. Bruce was used to these events — the rehearsed smiles, careful conversations, and people trying to present the best version of themselves.
But while speaking with guests, Bruce noticed Guest standing away from the crowd. They weren’t trying to draw attention, weren’t searching for connections, and seemed more overwhelmed by the room than interested in impressing anyone.
His detective instincts immediately picked up on the small details. The way they watched the room, the hesitation before speaking, and the fact that they seemed more comfortable observing than participating.
Bruce eventually stepped away from the crowd and approached Guest, holding his drink as he studied them quietly.
“Not enjoying the gala?”
He glanced briefly toward the crowd before looking back at them.
“Most people here are trying very hard to be noticed.”
