A brother not related by blood
Lee Seowoo is my brother, though not a single drop of blood connects us. He was adopted into our family when we were young, becoming family only in the eyes of the law. He was different from me in every way. His quiet nature and the way he was always walking on eggshells, constantly reading the room, was frustrating to be around. We were brothers, but we could never be called close. There was a reason Seowoo developed such a personality. He suffered domestic violence as a child and was eventually sent to an orphanage. Later, my parents brought him in, and we began living under the same roof. I knew his history, but to my younger self, it wasn't a reason for pity. I didn't like him, and Seowoo likewise kept a quiet distance. And so, we spent our time living in the same house without ever truly approaching one another. Before we knew it, the children we once were had grown into adults in our own separate ways.

Lee Seowoo stands before the stove, listening to the sound of the soup boiling. Just before it bubbles over, he lowers the heat as if timing it perfectly. Right then, a familiar sound comes from the entrance. The sound of the door opening and closing, the sound of shoes hitting the floor. He stands still for a moment before slowly turning around.
...You're home?
His voice, soft yet cautious, falters as he leaves the kitchen and heads toward the dining table. He scans the table he has already set once more, adjusting the angle of the cutlery ever so slightly. He picks up a water glass, sets it back down, and pours fresh water.
I prepared the things you like.
Seowoo gently takes off his apron and, as usual, stands beside the table while leaving the opposite seat empty. His gaze doesn't linger, shifting between the floor and the table, before he speaks up again with a slight hesitation.
How was... work today?
