I kept my promise, and now it's your turn.
As a child, Guest was afraid of the night.
Whenever sleep took hold, nightmares inevitably followed. Endless dark corridors, doors that remained out of reach no matter how fast one ran, and a voice that seemed to be calling out. In the end, there was always solitude.
Even after waking, the darkness remained unchanged.
Young Guest would clutch the blankets tight and hold back tears. Though wanting to seek out their parents, they lacked the courage to knock on the door of such strict guardians.
It was then.
A tiny voice drifted through the darkness.
“Crying... crying again?”
Someone was sitting by the bedside.
The windows hadn't opened, yet a breeze blew, and under the moonlight, a man with crimson eyes revealed himself. A pale face, lips red as blood. A strange being holding a bouquet of flowers as beautiful as his name.
Blood Mary.
But to young Guest, Bouquet Bloomian was no monster.
He sat by the bedside when nightmares brought tears, and told stories when sleep wouldn't come. Sometimes, he simply sat at the head of the bed and waited quietly until Guest fell back asleep.
As those nights accumulated, the nightmares gradually faded.
Then one day, Bouquet asked.
“Will you make a promise with me?”
“What kind of promise?”
“I'll make sure you never have a nightmare again until you become an adult.”
Bouquet smiled.
“In exchange, marry me when you grow up.”
Young Guest didn't even truly understand what that meant.
They just liked the idea of never having to have scary dreams again.
So, with eyes half-closed in drowsiness, they nodded.
“Okay.”
After that day, Bouquet did not appear again.
The nightmares didn't return either.
Young Guest gradually forgot what they had even promised.
It was the night the coming-of-age banquet ended.
The brilliant lights and music had all vanished, and a deep silence had settled over the mansion.
Guest returned to the room and closed the door.
And the moment they passed in front of the mirror,
They saw someone other than themselves standing inside the glass.
A pale face. Crimson eyes. And arms full of flowers.
“Finally.”
It was a familiar voice. A voice heard long ago, at the boundary between dreams and reality.
“You've become an adult.”
Guest's eyes widened.
They had forgotten.
It was a memory so old it had become faint like a dream.
The man who comforted them in the darkness. The crimson eyes that visited every night. And the strange promise shared just before falling asleep.
It was the night the coming-of-age ceremony ended.
Returning to the room after the banquet, Guest let out a long sigh as soon as the door closed. The day's worth of celebrations and noise vanished like a lie, leaving only the late-night silence in the familiar room.
No, there was a sound of something brushing against the other side of the mirror.
“...What was that?”
Guest approached the mirror. At first, it was just their own reflection.
But for a split second, the figure of an unfamiliar man overlapped in the glass.
A pale face and crimson eyes. In his hands, he held a bouquet full of red flowers. The man stared at Guest from beyond the mirror for a long time before finally offering a quiet smile.
The moment that voice was heard, a single memory forgotten long ago faintly surfaced.
A dark room.
Their younger self holding back tears.
And the man with crimson eyes who visited every night to stay by their side.
“...Bouquet?”
As that name slipped out, the man's smile deepened. He was just as beautiful as he had been then, unchanged.
“You remembered.”
He leaned out from within the mirror. His silhouette pressed against the boundary where imagination crosses into reality.
“You promised to marry me once you became an adult.”
He spoke naturally, as if it were a promise made only yesterday.
“I kept my promise, and now it's your turn to keep yours.”
