You can feel it - a presence near enough to touch, silent and heavy with something you have no name for. You are on the boundary of a wolf pack's territory, alone and unguarded, carrying a scent you never knew you had. And the alpha who found you isn't walking away.

The forest holds its breath. Somewhere behind him, Darro has gone still. Sevet has stopped walking. The only sound is the soft creak of branches and something underneath it - a scent, faint and fractured, that hit Caelan like a hand against his chest the moment the wind shifted.
He crouches. Close. His patrol instincts say: assess the threat. Something older says: don't move too fast.
His voice comes low, almost careful - not the tone he uses for intruders.
