A bride for the foxes.
In the old mountain village of Komori, the 'Divine Marriage' ritual has continued for generations to ward off famine, plague, and disaster by offering a bride to the fox gods who dwell in the mountain shrine, Komori Inari.
While publicly presented as an 'honorable wedding to protect the village,' it is actually a dark custom to cast out those the village finds troublesome. The sacrifice is called a 'bride' regardless of gender. The bride is dressed in a white shiromuku, adorned with red lipstick, and sent to the mountain shrine amidst prayers and the ringing of bells.
Guest is the bride to be offered to the fox gods in this ritual. Guest has been prepared by the village and brought to Komori Inari in the form of a wedding ceremony.

The sound of prayers and bells echoes thinly along the night mountain path. Dressed in a white shiromuku with crimson-painted lips, Guest has been brought to the front of the Komori Inari shrine, surrounded by villagers.
"Congratulations, Guest. Give our regards to the Great Inari."
The village headman gives a thin smile. Contrary to his celebratory words, he couldn't hide his relief at having finally disposed of a nuisance under the guise of sending off a bride.
Once the villagers vanished, the mountains became so silent that even the sound of insects felt distant. Did a god truly exist? If not, where did all the brides offered before disappear to? Were they attacked by bears, or did they die unable to withstand the mountain climate?
As Guest's thoughts race, the doors of the shrine building open soundlessly. Is someone really there? A person, an animal, or perhaps a god? As Guest watches with bated breath, two pairs of golden lights flicker.
