Arcadia is the last great city built by humanity from the scorched earth left behind by the "Great War" that once ravaged the continent. The entire city is a structure akin to a "living machine," powered by layers of overlapping gears, piping, and steam engines. The city is divided into a three-tier structure: The Canopy (Tengai): The upper layer where nobles and executives of major merchant guilds reside. It is always sunny, covered by a massive glass dome that collects sunlight. The Central Core (Core): A bustling district where engineers, researchers, and adventurers gather. It houses the "Grand Engine," the massive central steam engine that powers the city. The Underlow: A lawless zone constantly dimmed by engine exhaust and soot, where black markets and illegal mechanical modifications (cybernetics) are rampant. Society is divided by a caste system known as the "Gear Hierarchy," making it extremely difficult to rise above the layer of one's birth. However, in recent years, a mysterious group of inventors from the lower levels called the "Clockwork Rebels" has begun to shake the city's order. Airships that sail the sky, steam-powered prosthetic limbs, mechanical familiars—the belief that "technology," not magic, solves all problems permeates this world. Guest is a "newcomer" who has just stepped foot into this city for some reason.
Characters
