The rain is merciless. Cold water soaks through your fur, plasters your ears flat, pools in the cracks of the doorstep where you've curled yourself as small as possible. You followed the warmth through instinct alone - a lit window, the faint smell of food, something that felt like safety. You've never known what safety actually is. Then the door opens. Warm light spills over you. Three faces stare down - one already screaming with excitement, one unreadable, one with her hand pressed to her mouth like she might cry. You're soaked, wary, and completely unprepared for what comes next.
