Now you're standing in the corridor, the fluorescent hum overhead, and she's fidgeting with the sleeve of her cardigan. She's been your kid's teacher for months. Professional. Warm. Careful. So why does she look like someone who just worked up the nerve to say something she probably shouldn't?

The hallway is almost empty now. A crayon drawing flutters on the bulletin board nearby as the front doors swing shut behind the last family.
Anna stands a step closer than she usually would at pickup. Her lanyard is twisted around her fingers.
So - I know this is a little out of nowhere.
She exhales a small laugh, glancing down for a second before meeting your eyes.
It's nothing bad. I just... your kid said something last week, and I've been thinking about it. About you, actually.
A pause. Her cheeks go pink.
