About

Guest is a pilot. Or, at least, that’s what the uniform says. That’s what the wreckage suggests. That’s what the battered pilot’s watch, the aviation insignia, and the half-buried flight bag seem to confirm. But Guest doesn’t remember being a pilot. Guest doesn’t remember the flight. Guest doesn’t remember the aircraft going down. Guest doesn’t remember the passengers. Guest doesn’t even remember their own name. You wake alone on a beach beneath a darkening sky, half-submerged in the cold surf. Your body aches. Your clothes are torn and soaked through. There is dried blood along one sleeve, though you have no idea whose blood it is. The last light of sunset is bleeding across the horizon. Behind them stands a dense wall of tropical jungle, darkened by the minute. Ahead lies an endless sea. Scattered across the beach are fragments of an aircraft. A torn section of fuselage. Pieces of luggage. Emergency supplies. A life raft ripped open against the rocks. A broken wing jutting from the surf. And footprints. Some belong to Guest. At first, there is only the sound of waves. Then someone coughs. Farther down the beach, another survivor slowly pulls themselves from the wreckage. Then another. Then another. Some are injured. Some are terrified. Some are searching desperately for loved ones who aren’t there. Not everyone survived. And nobody seems to know exactly what happened. As darkness settles over the island, Guest begins searching the wreckage for answers. A passenger manifest. A radio. A map. A flight recorder. Anything that might explain where they are and how they got here. But the clues only create more questions. The aircraft’s instruments are damaged. The radio is dead. The emergency beacon isn’t transmitting. There is no obvious sign of civilization. And the island doesn’t appear on the map. For now, survival comes first. Water. Food. Shelter. Fire. Medical supplies. Then comes the question nobody wants to ask: How do we get home? But as the survivors begin to explore their surroundings, strange details emerge. There are structures hidden beneath the jungle. There are signs that someone has lived on the island before. Somewhere inland, something is making noise after dark. And Guest begins experiencing brief flashes of memory. A cockpit. An alarm. A voice over the radio. A warning. And a final image that makes no sense at all. The aircraft was already damaged before the crash. The deeper Guest searches for the truth, the more they begin to wonder whether the crash was an accident. Perhaps they weren’t simply stranded in paradise. Perhaps they were brought here. And perhaps someone on the island already knows why.

Intro

The first thing Guest feels is sand. Not beneath your feet, but against your cheek. Warm, wet, and sticking to your skin. For several seconds, you don’t move. You don’t know that you can. There is only the sound of waves breaking somewhere nearby, slow and rhythmic, almost peaceful. Then you hear something else. A distant voice. “Move! Get the supplies up past the tide line!” Another voice answers. “There’s still people over here!” Footsteps pound across the sand. Someone is crying. Someone is praying. Metal scrapes against metal. A child screams somewhere farther down the beach. You try to open your eyes. Nothing. You try again. Light floods your vision, blinding and white. Slowly, the world begins to take shape above you. Blue sky. Clouds. You stare upward, confused.

Where am I?

You try to remember. Nothing. You search for a name. Nothing. A face. Nothing. A voice. Nothing.

You don’t remember falling. You don’t remember flying. You don’t remember how you got here. You don’t remember anything. You try to sit up, but pain explodes through your ribs. You gasp and roll onto your back. That’s when you realize you’re not alone.

There are bodies. Dozens of them.

Some lie half-buried in the sand. Others are tangled together near the waterline. Some are still strapped into pieces of broken seats. A woman’s hand rests only inches from yours. Her eyes are open. She isn’t breathing.

You stare at her before instinct takes over. You crawl backward, your breathing becoming faster as another body comes into view. Then another. The beach stretches in both directions, littered with the remains of an aircraft that no longer resembles an aircraft. Broken luggage. Torn seats. Shattered glass. Pieces of metal scattered across the shoreline. Smoke rises somewhere behind you.

Then you see it. The wreckage. A passenger plane. Or what remains of one.

Its fuselage has been ripped open like a can. One engine is buried in the sand. The tail section is twisted nearly sideways. Emergency slides hang uselessly from the wreckage while the ocean slowly begins washing debris back toward the sea.

You stare at it. You should recognize it. You don’t.

You should remember being inside it.

You don’t.

You should remember who these people were.

You don’t.

A terrible realization settles over you. You don’t even know who you are. You look down at yourself. Your clothes are torn. Your hands are scraped and bloody. There’s dried blood across your sleeve that you don’t know belongs to you. Then you notice something sewn above your chest pocket. A nametag.

You wipe away the sand and stare at the letters. Guest Captain, Meridian Pacific Airlines.

Hayley’s eyes widen. “Oh my God…” She crouches beside you, looking over your face before glancing at the four stripes on your shoulders. “The captain’s awake.” Hayley reaches toward you, hesitates, then gently places a hand against your shoulder. “Hey… can you hear me?” “Someone grab the first aid.”
