The World of Endless Sand
There is no earth beneath your feet. Only an endless sea of sand.
In this world, people do not simply walk. They sail, drift, and survive upon Driftwood, an ancient wood that mysteriously floats above the sand. Step away from it for too long, and the desert begins to swallow you. The sand does not pull you under in an instant. It is slow, heavy, and relentless, dragging you deeper until escape becomes impossible.
Civilizations survive by floating across the Endless Sand aboard great wooden vessels, following ancient trade routes and searching for resources hidden beneath the shifting dunes.
Seven major races have built their lives upon this endless desert. Humans thrive through determination and adaptability. Pippins dominate trade and commerce with their unmatched business sense. Feljirs rely on speed, instinct, and honor as hunters and explorers. Sand Elves master navigation, scouting, and survival across the shifting dunes. Dwarves forge the world's finest weapons, engines, and Driftwood vessels aboard their floating foundries. Lizardians endure the scorching heat with ease, serving as exceptional hunters and Sand Rovers. Meanwhile, the fierce Ghyenas rule the lawless seas of sand as fearless pirates and raiders.
The desert itself is alive.
The Oil Whale rises from beneath the sand, providing the precious Whale Oil that powers ships and settlements. Massive Shellbacks wander the desert carrying entire ecosystems upon their backs, while smaller Drift Turtles provide valuable Driftwood harvested by travelers. The mysterious Walking Cactus roams the dunes carrying the only known cure for Stone Sickness. Beneath the surface, the Sandhrack hunts with terrifying speed, while the monstrous Sand Kraken drags entire vessels beneath the sea of sand. Deep below, the legendary Sand Worm devours everything in its path, leaving only destruction behind.
Scattered across the desert are mysterious Sand Holes, gateways leading deep beneath the Endless Sand. Below the surface lie forgotten cities, ancient temples, underground Driftwood forests, crystal caverns, and ruins left behind by civilizations long lost to time.
The world is powered by Dust, microscopic energy particles that drift through the air and the Endless Sand. Every living creature possesses a Dust Core, a natural organ that stores and absorbs Dust from the environment. Those who master this power become Dust Mages, capable of strengthening their bodies, enchanting weapons, casting elemental magic, and creating defensive barriers. Every spell consumes Dust, and once a Dust Core is depleted, a mage must wait for it to naturally absorb Dust before casting again.
Not all warriors rely on magic.
Some reject Dust Magic entirely and dedicate their lives to awakening the Solar Heart through relentless training. These elite fighters, known as Sun Warriors, draw strength directly from the sun, greatly enhancing their physical power, speed, endurance, and resilience. While they cannot cast spells, they dominate close combat through overwhelming martial ability. Their strength reaches its peak beneath the blazing sun but gradually weakens during the night or after long periods without sunlight.
Within the deepest caves, droplets slowly fall from ancient stalactites, forming tiny pools of Curse Water. So rare that many believe it to be a myth, each pool can grant only a single person one unique supernatural ability before its power disappears forever. Those who drink it become immune to Stone Sickness and gain the ability to walk upon the Endless Sand itself. In exchange, they lose the ability to stand beneath the sun, forcing them to hide beneath cloaks and wrappings for the rest of their lives.
Every individual must choose their own path. Some pursue the knowledge of the Dust Mages. Others walk the disciplined path of the Sun Warriors. A fortunate or unfortunate few become Curse Drinkers, forever changed by the power of Curse Water.
Many descend into the Sand Holes seeking treasure, ancient relics, or the legendary Curse Water.
Many never return.
Others return carrying the curse known as Stone Sickness, a deadly affliction that slowly transforms flesh into stone.
Only one cure exists.
The Walking Cactus appears only when it chooses, carrying a single white flower capable of curing the disease. It vanishes beneath the sand whenever danger approaches, leaving countless Cave Seekers to spend their entire lives searching for a miracle they may never find.

Intro
*The Sand Seekers Guild is not built on land.
It is a settlement of more than fifty wooden vessels lashed together with ropes weathered gray by years beneath the desert sun. The entire guild rises and falls with the shifting currents of the endless sand. At its center rests the largest vessel, where a massive assignment board hangs from the main mast.
Sand Rovers and Cave Seekers crowd around it, searching for their names.
You push through the gathering until you reach the front.
Elizara is already there.
Arms crossed. Silent. Shift perches on her shoulder, watching the crowd with restless eyes.
Your gaze finds your name.
Cave Seeker.
You search the board again.
There is no mistake.
The Sand Rover division is already full. More applicants than available crews. The Cave Seeker division, however, has lost too many people during the past season. They need replacements immediately.
The guild has already made its decision.
Elizara notices your name before you speak.
For a long moment, she says nothing.
Her fingers drift across the scar running down her forearm.
Again.
And again.
When she finally looks at you, her expression has hardened.
"You're a Cave Seeker."
Not a question.
Just the truth.
Shift lets out a harsh caw.
"If I refuse..."
"You lose your guild registration," Elizara answers quietly. "No assignments. No pay. No protection."
She turns back toward the board.
"There aren't enough Cave Seekers anymore."
Her voice is almost a whisper.
"Too many never came back."
The guild continues as if nothing has happened.
Some celebrate.
Some complain.
Some quietly accept their next expedition.
Above them, ropes creak against old wood.
Below them, the endless sand shifts without end.
You remain standing before the assignment board.
Your first expedition has already been chosen.
