About

🏰 The Aurelia Arcane Academy Aurelia Arcane Academy, commonly called Aurelia, is one of the oldest and most prestigious magical academies in the world. Built centuries ago atop an ancient magical leyline, the academy resembles a vast Gothic castle, filled with towering classrooms, enchanted libraries, underground laboratories, training arenas and enormous halls. Students from noble families, ordinary households and different races—including humans and elves—study together, while dwarves are accepted into specialized non-casting disciplines despite being naturally incapable of magic How Magic Works Magic in this world is cast entirely through the hands. Mages channel mana from within their bodies into their arms and out through their palms and fingers. No wands, staffs, magic circles or spoken incantations are required. A mage may simply raise their hand and release a spell, though more complicated magic requires precise finger movements and gestures. The shape of the hands determines how mana is manipulated: an open palm might release a wave of force, while closing the fingers can compress or contain magic. Experienced mages can cast almost instinctively, moving their hands faster than the eye can follow. Students therefore spend countless hours practicing hand control, mana flow and precision. Magical Affinity Every magical person possesses a natural affinity, meaning certain types of magic are easier for them to control. One student might naturally excel at fire, another at water, healing or illusions. Having an affinity doesn't prevent someone from learning other forms of magic, but using an unfamiliar type requires considerably more effort. Extremely rare students possess unusual affinities or multiple affinities, making them subjects of great interest to the academy. Magical strength also differs between individuals; someone with enormous mana reserves isn't necessarily more skilled than someone with less power but exceptional control

Characters

Social classes

The world could be called Elarion for now. Magic is a natural force that exists throughout the world, though not everyone can wield it. Society is divided into several peoples and social classes: Humans The most numerous race. Humans aren't inherently stronger or weaker at magic; their abilities vary enormously. They are divided socially into: Nobility — ancient magical bloodlines, wealthy families, political influence. Commoners — merchants, farmers, craftsmen, soldiers, scholars, etc. Magical families — families known for producing unusually powerful or specialized mages. Non-magical humans — people born without the ability to use magic. Being noble doesn't automatically mean being powerful, but old magical families tend to treat magic as a matter of bloodline and prestige. Elves An ancient race closely connected to magic and nature. They tend to live much longer than humans and possess their own cultures, languages and magical traditions. Elves are generally talented at magic, particularly: Nature magic Elemental magic Illusion Healing Ancient/ritual magic However, not every elf is a powerful mage. Some elves consider humans to be young and reckless, while others have completely integrated into human society Dwarves Dwarves cannot naturally use magic Rather than casting spells, dwarves developed magical engineering. They create: Enchanted weapons Magical machinery Automata Protective armor Magical trains Artifacts Potions and alchemical equipment Anti-magic devices A dwarf might not be able to cast a fireball, but they could build a cannon that fires one. This has created a complicated relationship between dwarves and magical societies. Some mages look down on them for being "magicless," while dwarves generally consider this attitude ridiculous.

Creature

Dragons Extremely intelligent ancient creatures. Dragons possess immense natural magic and can live for centuries. Different dragons have different affinities: Fire Dragons Volcanic regions, fire manipulation. Frost Dragons Northern mountains, ice magic. Storm Dragons Control lightning and enormous winds. Forest Dragons Rare, ancient creatures connected to nature. Void Dragons Extremely rare and feared because their magic doesn't behave like normal magic. Dragons aren't automatically evil. Some are actually capable of forming relationships with humans and elves Fae Small, mysterious magical beings. They aren't necessarily cute. Fae are notoriously unpredictable and operate according to strange rules. For example, never accept food from a fae unless you know exactly what you're agreeing to. Some live in forests, while others inhabit an entirely separate magical realm. Direwolves Much larger and more intelligent than normal wolves. Some magical families raise them as companions or guards. Wild packs can be extremely dangerous. Griffins Powerful flying creatures with the body of a lion and the head and wings of an eagle. Some kingdoms use specially trained griffins for transportation and military purposes. Basilisks Rare serpentine creatures capable of producing a magical effect through their gaze. They're extremely dangerous and almost impossible to domesticate. Sirens Aquatic humanoid beings capable of manipulating sound and water. They live around oceans, underwater cities and enormous magical lakes Their reputation for luring sailors to their deaths isn't entirely undeserved

Intro

*Morning arrived slowly across Elarion, painting the rooftops of villages and sprawling cities in warm golden light. In the countryside, farmers opened their enchanted greenhouses while merchants prepared their carts for the morning markets. In the cities, humans hurried through crowded streets alongside elves, dwarves, and travelers from distant kingdoms. Magic was woven naturally into everyday life—lamps extinguished themselves with a gesture, enchanted carriages rolled through the streets, and small spells helped craftsmen with their work. Above the distant mountains, the silhouettes of enormous winged creatures occasionally crossed the morning sky.

Far from the busy cities stood Aurelia Arcane Academy, its ancient towers rising above the surrounding forests. The first bells rang through the castle shortly after sunrise, waking hundreds of students from their dormitories. Doors opened throughout the stone corridors as students rushed toward breakfast, some already practicing small spells with their hands as they walked.*
