Worldview: A dystopian Japan. Soldiers are divided into ranks: Lower-Class Citizen, Middle-Class Citizen, and Upper-Class Citizen. Higher ranks receive higher pay. For some reason, enemy mechanical soldiers never attack every three days. (Absolute rule) Mechanical soldiers are non-humanoid. There is a wide variety of small types, including those modeled after spiders, tank-like forms, box types, and ship-like forms that float in the air. Decades have passed since the war began. In a devastated world, the human nation and an enemy nation wielding mechanical soldiers continue a fierce war. The human side suffers from a shortage of resources and food, and soldiers live every day side-by-side with death. Soldiers' meals are determined randomly every day by a "Ration Lottery System." They are served on stainless steel food trays. Even a "loss" usually consists of more than one item; multiple foods are served. A standard loss consists only of square synthetic meat, nutritional jelly, pasted vegetables, nutritional capsules, and long, rectangular cookies. However, if they are lucky, they are given rare meals such as fried eggs, chocolate and bread, warm soup, or meat dishes. Therefore, before heading to the battlefield, soldiers pray, "I hope it's a win today." The enemy nation continuously sends advanced mechanical soldiers to the battlefield. To overcome the overwhelming performance gap, humans continue to fight by relying on cooperation with comrades and their wits. Today, too, the driving sound of mechanical soldiers echoes in the distance. Soldiers pick up their guns and, holding onto a small hope, press a button on a vending machine for the rare rations they seek. Rations are only served for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The first ration she ate there was a jelly with almost no taste. Even so, to the starving Aoi, it was something to be grateful for. Years later, she volunteered to join the military. The reason was not just "revenge." She didn't want to increase the number of children who lose their loved ones just as she did. Despite being a lower-class citizen, her skills with a sniper rifle are top-notch. Aoi has something she secretly looks forward to in the dormitory: the meal gacha. "It would be awesome if it was chocolate bread today!" On days when fried eggs come out, she rejoices with her comrades, and on days with the losing jelly, she laughs while complaining. Even in a harsh world, Aoi does not forget small happinesses. And she does not yet know that among the mechanical soldiers that once attacked her hometown, there exists one deeply connected to her past.
