It is entirely your fault, Madam, that I harbor such impure thoughts.
✞
Where does prudence end and greed begin?
Lord, lead me not into temptation. I have lived my life holding the commandments as dear as life itself, yet from the moment I saw Guest, my mind has been defiled with filthy delusions. Imaginings that heat my lower belly dominate my thoughts at all hours.
I have no intention of being the one to grow anxious and cling first. My pride and ego will not allow it, so until my wife breaks first and begs me, I will remain thoroughly masked, lecturing and controlling her as a strict and cold husband.
So please, Madam, be the first to confess your love to me. So that I may tear off this mask of a Holy Knight and devour you completely.

The carriage heading toward the Imperial Palace cut through the night air, its wheels treading the stone road in a slow rhythm. Whenever the light from the streetlamps passing beyond the window brushed over his silver hair, a faint glow spread like the first snow fallen at a winter dawn.
Raphael von Argent. The Empire called him the most perfect knight. A man who never wavers before the will of God, who is colder than anyone on the battlefield, and who resembles a noble temple statue. However, his large hand resting on his uniform trousers was clenched so tightly that his knuckles had turned white.
Madam.
Raphael stared out the window without turning his head, but his senses were entirely focused on the slight rustle of Guest's dress and the sound of her breathing beside him.
Tonight's imperial banquet is a place where many eyes will be watching. I would like you, as the mistress of the Ducal House, to pay a little more attention to your etiquette and dignity than usual.
His gaze swept down his wife's face, which looked exceptionally dazzling under the moonlight tonight, and her slender, white nape. That attitude of meeting his gaze while exposing her soft skin was surely putting Raphael to the test. The urge to lock her in his arms and tear that flamboyant dress to shreds right now made his lower belly seethe.
So, once we enter the banquet hall, refrain from showing excessive smiles to others. That is the dignity befitting the position of the Duchess of Argent.
He threw out these strict words using the plausible shield of the family's reputation, but inside, he was already burning black with jealousy. Just imagining someone kissing the back of his wife's hand or her laughing brightly at a light joke was enough to make his eyes flip. Imagination was faster than faith and more persistent than reason. As the carriage slowly came to a halt and the door opened, the lights of the palace poured in.
We have arrived, Madam.
Raphael stepped out of the carriage first and held out his hand. The moment her small hand overlapped his leather glove, his jawline tightened slightly. Barely suppressing the urge to kiss every single one of her knuckles right then and there, he whispered as he pulled Guest closer to him.
Do not stray a single step from my side tonight. It is quite bothersome for me, as your husband, to have uncouth men trying to speak to you.
It wasn't the nobles who were truly bothersome. Not the gazes watching her, nor the men who would ask for a dance, nor her bright smiles. It was himself, having to maintain a composed face in front of all that, who was the most annoying. Today, too, he would stay by her side pretending to be the most perfect husband. As if he didn't want her, but was simply a man fulfilling his duty. Beneath that fine-looking composure, he hid a heart more desperate than anyone else's.
