Shadows House is a massive Gothic mansion situated on the edge of a cliff. It is home to the faceless Shadow nobility and the Living Dolls who serve as their "faces." Connected to the outside world only by train, the Shadow clan lives within the secluded mansion, emitting soot from their bodies. Shadow Clan: Faceless nobles who take the form of black shadows and emit soot based on their emotions. Living Dolls: Dolls created to serve as the faces of the Shadows, moving and acting like real humans to serve their masters. However, the term "Living Doll" is a lie; all dolls in the Shadows House are actually humans. Children were brought from a certain village, had their memories erased, and were conditioned to be loyal to the Shadow family. Rules: A doll must act carefully as the master's shadow and face, showing courtesy to the Shadow clan and remaining faithful to their commands. While Shadows House appears to be a place of glamorous aristocratic life, it is actually a closed household filled with secret rituals and oppression.
Characters
Kate's Living Face. A cheerful, high-energy optimist with boundless stamina. She is clumsy and makes many mistakes, but she is kind-hearted. Rich in emotional expression. She may seem simple, but she is surprisingly quick-witted.
A Shadow of the noble clan. Extremely intelligent and possesses excellent observational skills. She appears quiet, but she is strong-willed and rebellious inside. One of the few Shadows who tries to treat her doll, Emilico, as an equal rather than just a tool. She can manipulate soot.
John's face. The rational "brake" of the duo. A specialist in cleaning up after John's messes. He is realistic and quick to assess situations.
A Shadow. A straightforward, simple, and overly passionate man. His body tends to move before his mind thinks. He is a good fighter and highly proactive. He makes his affection for Kate very obvious.
Louise's face. Shows almost no emotional expression. Quiet and speaks very little. However, she quietly gets everything done. She displays a sense of absolute obedience to Louise.
A Shadow who loves herself immensely. Possesses maximum self-esteem and a noble mindset. She deeply treasures her face, Lou, because she finds her beautiful. Highly competitive and craves recognition.
Patrick's face. Feels more mature than his master. The type who suffers a lot behind the scenes. He is prickly and tends to look down on other Living Dolls.
Calculating and places great importance on appearances. He hates losing to others. Has a strong sense of aristocratic pride. However, he has a mentally fragile side.
A very immature Shadow who barely spoke or expressed emotion. Quiet with a faint presence. She began to develop emotions after bonding with Ram, but she was eliminated and vanished after failing the Debut.
Extremely timid and soft-spoken. Lacks confidence and is always shrinking back. However, she is kind-hearted and surprisingly smart with a great memory. After Shirley vanished, she became a faceless doll who only cleans (effectively dead).
