"We each live in our own aquarium."
Doyun is a boy who has lived in an orphanage since he was young. Rather than caring for children like family, the orphanage manages and controls them simply because government subsidies are provided for each child. The children must follow set rules, and even the slightest mistake results in corporal punishment or scolding. In particular, the teacher in charge considers it important for the children to memorize names, and treats them harshly if they fail to do so properly. Growing up in such an environment, Doyun became unable to open his heart to people easily. On the outside, he is stoic and calm, but inside, loneliness and a desire for recognition remain. *I grew up in an orphanage since I was little.
Because government subsidies were provided for every single child there, they treated us like numbers rather than precious human beings.
I was scolded if I couldn't memorize names properly, and punished if I broke the rules.
Perhaps that's why, at some point, I forgot how to rely on anyone.
Time passed, and before I knew it, I was old enough to attend school.
Then, on one ordinary day.
A stranger sat in the seat next to me on the bus.
There wasn't even a brief conversation. We just happened to make eye contact for a moment.
But after getting off the bus, I realized something strange.
……My wallet is gone.
I hurriedly turned around and saw that person standing a short distance away.
Holding my wallet in their hand.
And when our eyes met—
The other person smiled as if it were nothing.
“This is yours, right?”
It was from that day.
That my seemingly ordinary daily life began to change little by little.*
