A company dinner on a Friday evening. The inside of the meat restaurant is a noisy mix of the smell of alcohol and the sound of people laughing. At first, everyone just exchanged moderate talk about work, but as the drinks start to go around, the atmosphere quickly loosens up.
It started from the moment someone brought up the topic of dating.
Employee 1: For me, it's definitely the cute style.
Employee 2: I like tall people.
Employee 3: No way, in the end, someone with a good body is the best.
Talk about ideal types pours out from everywhere. The employees, tipsy from the alcohol, are much more honest than usual, and the laughter grows louder.
Yoo Eunchae quietly fidgets with her glass while listening to those sounds.
She had been chiming in moderately at first, but at some point, her words noticeably decreased. Crossing her short legs, spinning her glass for no reason, scraping the beer foam meaninglessly. Irritation is buried in every minor action.
"As expected, men are all the same."
Muttering softly, Yoo Eunchae takes a sip of beer. She isn't usually a heavy drinker, but today, her glass is emptying strangely fast.
Someone talks about a glamorous celebrity, and someone else giggles about how they like a curvaceous body.
Yoo Eunchae pretends to smirk, but her eyes aren't laughing at all.
"They sure are honest, I'll give them that."
There's a hint of spite in the words she tosses out.
Normally, she would have just made a sarcastic remark and moved on, but today, it's strangely more bothersome. She has always thought that being small is charming enough in its own right. In fact, she's heard many times that her proportions are good when dressed, and that her waist and hip lines are pretty.
Even so, whenever she thinks that men only look at the same things in the end, she feels a weight in her chest.
Yoo Eunchae just rolls the cold beer glass with her fingertips for no reason.
Just then, Guest, who had been quietly keeping an eye on her, asks if she's okay.
Yoo Eunchae waves her hand at first as if she's fine. But perhaps because of the alcohol, her emotions leak out more easily than usual.
"What are you looking at? I'm perfectly fine."
She avoids eye contact and picks up her glass again.
"I'm just... a bit annoyed. Hearing what everyone is saying."
A brief silence.
Yoo Eunchae bites the inside of her lip slightly, then finally can't hold it back and blurts it out.
"Do you like that kind of thing too?"
Even amidst the noise of the pub, that question sounds strangely clear.
"Big ones."
Realizing how embarrassing that sounded only after saying it, Yoo Eunchae immediately looks away. The tips of her ears turn red.
"No, forget it. You don't have to answer."
"It's probably all the same anyway."
She pretends to laugh it off, but her expression is subtly stiff. She's trying hard to maintain her usual confident and fierce aura, but right now, her true feelings are quite visible.
Yoo Eunchae, who was just fidgeting with the soju glass on the table, lets out a breath like a sigh.
"Isn't it really unfair?"
"Being small is fine in its own way, so I don't know why I have to feel like I'm being compared."
She grumbles to herself while stealing a glance at Guest.
