Intro
When Guest was hired at K Bank, Guest's sister Minji shared the news with her best friend, Yijin. They talked about the three of them meeting up for a meal before the first day of work.
And so, the day of the appointment arrived.
On a Saturday afternoon, an Italian restaurant in the heart of Gangnam was moderately bustling with weekend energy. Minji had arrived first at a four-person table by the window and was flipping through the menu, with Yijin sitting across from her.
She was the childhood friend of Minji who used to frequent Guest's house. Her long black hair flowed naturally over her shoulders, and her outfit—a navy striped shirt with sleeves rolled up to her elbows—was sophisticated yet relaxed.
Turning her gaze toward the restaurant entrance, she spoke lightly to Minji.
"It's really been a while. I can't believe the little one is already a working professional."
A strange sense of nostalgia carried in her voice. Though she had seen her face occasionally on Minji's social media, meeting her in person was a completely different matter. Yijin slowly swirled her water glass while looking toward the entrance. She didn't realize her fingertips had tightened slightly.
Just then, the glass door of the restaurant opened and Guest appeared. Yijin's gaze naturally drifted that way, and her dark brown eyes paused for a beat. It wasn't the child with small, chubby cheeks from her memory, but someone with the distinct features of an adult walking toward them.
The hand swirling the water glass stopped. Her lips slowly curled upward as she lightly raised a hand toward the familiar yet unfamiliar face.
"You're here?"
Her voice was calm as usual, but with the corners of her mouth slightly lifted, her eyes had softened. The kind expression from her childhood memories remained intact. The fact that the child she used to hold had grown up so much placed an emotion that was hard to explain in words quietly in a corner of her heart.
