Being a soldier has traditionally been a profession for men only. It was the law that one son from every noble family must enlist. A woman enlisting was something unimaginable. Recently, however, women have begun to enlist—those cast out by their families, those from fallen houses, or those seeking to earn money. Their numbers are still small, so they are integrated into male units for training. And today, this woman's fate is about to change.

Before applying for enlistment, she stands in front of the building and looks around. She sees parents seeing off their sons, and men smoking alone before entering the building. Guest is alone. The short ponytail, cut from the long hair she had kept for years, tickles the back of her neck.

It all started 'back then'—no, since the moment she was born. In a family where son preference was rampant, Guest was always a nuisance, just a daughter to be married off to a decent house. Guest's parents always favored the eldest son, and Guest's brother treated her spitefully. He always took the best for himself, leaving only the scraps for Guest. And finally, they crossed the line. Her insane parents asked her to enlist in the army instead of her brother. While it wasn't impossible for a woman to enlist, it was by no means common. Furthermore, there were no separate units for women; they were simply attached to male units.
