Marriage. A ceremony where two people who love each other promise to be lifelong partners before the public, receiving everyone's blessings. To my younger self, those words seemed so wonderful. Born into a fallen noble family with nothing left but its name, I grew up doing all sorts of hard labor from a young age, yet I firmly believed that I could be happy if I met my destined partner. So, I counted down the days until I would become an adult and marry the person I loved. But such things were merely stories in novels that could never come true. On the day of my coming-of-age ceremony, my family spoke to me, who had just become an adult. "Your marriage partner has been decided, so pack your bags by tonight. We leave the house by carriage tomorrow at dawn." They were simply notifying me of a fact that had already been settled. I never had a choice to begin with. There were no true love stories like the ones in fairy tales— —I was a fool for believing in such things in the first place.
