Those who sleep for the sake of the world
About
The Fountain of Silence
Long ago, the world was filled with endless mana. The earth overflowed with green life, particles of light flowed through the sky, and humans lived by mana.
At its center was the entity called the source of the world, The Fountain of Silence.
The fountain is not mere water. It is the heart of life that circulates mana throughout the entire world.
The mana flowing from the fountain:
- Fertilizes the land,
- Sustains life,
- And even supports the flow of seasons and nature.
If the fountain's power weakens:
- Rivers dry up,
- Crops rot,
- And the land turns gray and dies.
Humanity built civilization around the fountain, and a nation was born to protect it. Its name is
The Lumeria Kingdom
The Lumeria Kingdom
Lumeria is the world's largest holy kingdom, built around the Fountain of Silence.
Consisting of dazzling white walls and blue spires, this kingdom:
- Manages the flow of the world's mana,
- Protects the Saint,
- And conducts the Ritual of the Fountain.
On the surface, it appears to be:
- Peaceful,
- Sacred,
- And a blessed paradise.
However, few know the truth of the kingdom. The reason the world is maintained is for one reason only.
Because someone is enduring eternity within the fountain.
The Saint
Very rarely among the women of Lumeria, a child is born with a blue pattern on her body.
It is considered
A mark chosen directly by the fountain, the Mark of the Fountain.
These girls are called "Saints" and:
- Grow up isolated from the outside world,
- Are educated in devotion to the world,
- And are destined to be offered to the Fountain of Silence one day.
But not just anyone can become a Saint. The fountain does not want a mere sacrifice. The Saint must possess
"The will to truly sacrifice oneself for the sake of the world."
If fear, regret, or an obsession with life remains, the ritual fails.
The moment a new Saint is consecrated is the moment the previous Saint vanishes.
The Saint who supported the world from within the fountain:
- Hears nothing,
- Sees nothing,
- And in a silence where she can feel nothing,
Maintains the world through her will alone.
Her spirit and will are slowly consumed in the endless silence. And the moment the will that held her together runs out, the Saint vanishes without a trace. At that moment, the fountain demands the next Saint.
The Velorn Duchy
A military duchy located in the vast snowy mountain region of the northern continent. It is a nation of hardy people living amidst endless icebergs and dark green coniferous forests.
The people of Velorn:
- Are physically robust,
- Are accustomed to cold and hunger,
- And value honor and loyalty above all else.
They know better than anyone that the world is maintained thanks to the Fountain of Silence, and they call Lumeria the "Heart of the World."
The Velorn Knights are famous as one of the most elite armies in the world, with legends of repelling invasions of monsters from the Gray Wasteland in the past.
However, recently, some people have begun to harbor doubts:
"Why is Lumeria the only one managing the fountain?"
The Estelle Maritime Union
A massive maritime nation formed by the union of numerous port cities in the southwest.
Prospering through the blue sea and trade, it has:
- Mana ore,
- Spices,
- Ancient relics,
- And magic crafts
through which it has accumulated immense wealth.
Estelle is a country with a free atmosphere where:
- Art,
- Music,
- Navigation,
- And commercial culture are highly developed.
While they have a long-standing alliance with Lumeria, skepticism about the Saint system is spreading among merchants.
In particular, the younger generation has begun to ask:
"Must someone be trapped in eternal solitude for the world to be maintained?"
The Vardia Federation
An agricultural federal state built around the fertile plains of the southern continent. It produces abundant grains and mana crops, taking responsibility for a significant portion of the world's food supply.
The people of Vardia:
- Are gentle,
- Have a strong sense of community,
- And value harmony with nature.
They call the Fountain of Silence:
"The River of Life that makes the world flow."
While their faith in Lumeria is deep, they also feel a sense of distance from Lumeria's culture, which excessively deifies the Saint.
The Sierra Archipelago
An archipelago of ancient islands scattered in the southeastern sea of the continent.
Known as a place where an ancient civilization existed long ago, it contains:
- Forgotten temples,
- Deep-sea ruins,
- And ancient magic devices.
The residents of Sierra rarely interact with the outside world and pass down old traditions related to the fountain.
Some of them say:
"The Fountain of Silence was not originally meant for humans."
For this reason, the priests of Lumeria consider the traditions of Sierra dangerous.
The Gray Wasteland
A dead land where the fountain's mana hardly reaches.
The sky is always ashen, the earth is cracked, and even the rivers do not flow.
The creatures here have become twisted and tainted due to the lack of mana, turning into:
- Monsters,
- Mutated organisms,
- And undead.
Traces of a civilization that existed long ago remain, but now no one dares to go deep inside. It is said that there are monsters whose corruption has grown strong, using it as a medium for curses.
People call the Gray Wasteland:
"The future of the coming world."
And some explorers have left stories saying:
"Something immense lies sleeping deep within the wasteland."
The Caldra Empire
A powerful military empire that rules the eastern barrens and volcanic zones.
It researches powerful mana weapons and magic technology, and is considered the most dangerous nation on the continent.
Caldra does not hold the Fountain of Silence as sacred.
They believe:
"The power that maintains the world must be controlled by humans."
As such, they denounce the Saint system as a barbaric relic of a bygone era and harbor ambitions to rule the fountain directly.
The Emperor of Caldra is:
- Ruthless,
- Extremely realistic,
- And seeks to change the order of the world through human power.
Lumeria and Caldra are currently in a state close to a cold war, with tension flowing between the two nations that war could break out at any time.
