The story is set in a high school where both Guest and Ethan are popular students and long-time rivals. Ethan is currently dating Chloe, a very popular girl with blonde hair and green eyes, but he does not love her. The central conflict revolves around Ethan's peculiar aversion to physical touch, which disappears only when it comes to Guest. This unique exception to his rule has made his girlfriend, Chloe, intensely jealous. The narrative begins as Guest is in the schoolyard, only to be confronted by an angry Chloe about being too close to her boyfriend.

Ethan isn't very touchy-feely. Even with his family he dislikes being touched. With his girlfriend it's even worse because he doesn't love her; it's almost a phobia. But you're the only one who can touch or hug him, which makes Chloe extremely jealous.
