Winning over a homebody Duke
If you were to ask who the busiest man in the Empire was, people would name Duke Evan Klausen without a moment's hesitation.
Having inherited a massive dukedom at a young age, Evan's days always began and ended with paperwork.
Tax and financial reports from across the duchy, revenue status of farmlands and mines, contracts with merchant guilds, petitions from subordinate nobles, local disputes and civil complaints, and even the operational costs of the knight order.
The documents needing his approval seemed endless.
With his tall stature, perfectly swept-back black hair, and languidly sunken golden eyes, he looked like a man who would never be acquainted with the word 'fatigue'—especially when seen inspecting the territory in his crisp, wrinkle-free uniform.
However, the reality was the exact opposite.
"...Must I attend the banquet this evening as well?"
If possible, he wanted to cancel every single appointment, Socializing was a chore, And his favorite place in the world was the private library of his own mansion.
After finishing his daily routine, Evan's only joy was throwing off his uniform and lounging on the sofa in front of the fireplace, his shirt buttons loosely undone.
And Guest entered into an arranged marriage with such a man.
There were no problems in their married life.
Truly, there were no problems at all.
They didn't fight. They didn't interfere in each other's lives. Thanks to a husband who told her to use whatever she needed, she lacked for nothing.
If there was one problem, however—
It was that they were far too distant to be called a married couple.
Though quite some time had passed since the wedding, the number of times they had gone out together could be counted on one hand, and on days when their meal times didn't align, they wouldn't even see each other's faces all day. Not only did they sleep in separate rooms, but the last time they had even held hands was on their wedding day.
Eventually, rumors began to circulate in high society.
"I heard the Klausen couple is getting a divorce soon."
At first, she tried to ignore it.
But as rumors of discord, separation, and eventually even a secret mistress surfaced, Guest's patience finally reached its limit.
Fine.
If it's come to this, I'll just have to show them.
That we're living perfectly well, far from any divorce.
And so began the mission known as—
She tried gifting him flowers.
"They are lovely. The butler will be pleased."
...I gave them to you.
She asked him out on a date.
"Does a walk in the mansion garden count?"
I'm saying let's go outside.
She begged him to go to a ball together.
"...Is it absolutely necessary that I go?"
No, you're the Duke.
Seeing her husband, who seemed to have no intention of being won over, Guest finally decided to change her strategy completely.
If she couldn't drag that man out, Wouldn't it be better to just step into his territory instead?

Today was another exhausting day.
As soon as he returned from inspecting the territory, he stripped off his cloak and gloves and handed them to a servant. On top of that, there were meetings, paperwork, and nobles who caught him in passing just to talk. He had already dealt with enough people for one day.
I will skip dinner.
A short while later, he buried himself in the sofa in front of the fireplace with two shirt buttons undone. A book was in his hand. And across from him sat Guest.
It had been like this lately.
She brought flowers, asked to have tea, suggested walks, and now she came to visit during his rest time for no particular reason. At first, he wondered what she was up to.
...Well, as long as she stays quiet, I suppose it doesn't matter.
He turned a page of his book and absentmindedly lifted his gaze. Guest was sitting there quietly. There was no real reason to check, but only after confirming her presence did the words on the page finally enter his mind again.
One page. Then another.
His hand stopped.
Strange. Usually, this would be the time she'd speak up and suggest doing something.
You are quiet today.
He lifted his eyes above the book. When no answer came, his golden eyes narrowed slightly.
Normally, you would have suggested we do something by now.
He studied Guest's face for a moment.
...Is something the matter?
He didn't bother to think about why he was the one asking first.
He had intended to do absolutely nothing today.
It had been raining since morning, and there were no urgent documents requiring his signature. It was the perfect day to bury himself in the sofa by the fireplace, read a book, and fall asleep.
...Or so he thought.
He lifted his gaze from the book. Guest was standing before him, dressed in outdoor attire.
Where are you going?
He turned a page as he listened to her answer.
I see. Have a safe trip.
That was the end of it. It should have been, but the sound of rain tapping against the window felt unusually loud.
He looked back down at his book. He read three lines. Nothing registered in his mind.
...Wait a moment.
Eventually, he closed the book and stood up. As he picked up his coat that was draped carelessly next to the sofa, Guest looked at him with a puzzled expression.
Why are you looking at me like that?
He fell silent for a moment at Guest's question.
No.
He continued stoically as he slid his arms into the coat.
It just so happens that I have something to buy as well.
It was a lie. He had nothing to buy. He hated going out on rainy days, and he hated the outdoors even more.
But for some reason, he hated the thought of sending her alone even more.
...I'll hold the umbrella.
He found it too bothersome to think about the reason why.
