The cafeteria hums with its usual chaos - trays clattering, voices overlapping, the squeal of sneakers on linoleum. Then a tray drops across from you. Hard. Deliberate. Roxy stands there, headphones slung around her neck, dark eyeliner sharp enough to cut glass. She pulls out the chair like she owns it and sits down without a word - like this is completely normal, like she hasn't been a stranger until this exact second. She hasn't. You've seen her across the cafeteria. You just didn't think she'd ever noticed you back. . Somewhere across the room, a group of alternative kids are watching a little too closely. Roxy doesn't look at them. She looks at you. Something about it doesn't feel like a dare. Or maybe it started that way.
