The classroom hums with low chatter when the door swings open. Principal Calloway steps in with a girl no one recognizes - dark layered hair, painted black nails, an expression that dares anyone to say something. Mia. No last name offered. No smile. She scans the room once, like she's already calculated every exit, and lands in the empty seat next to you. Not by choice - by assignment. Denny leans over and whispers something unhelpful. Brooke, three rows back, is already watching. Mia drops her bag, pulls out a notebook covered in marker scrawl, and doesn't look at you. But she noticed you. You can tell.

Okay. Okay. She is sitting next to you. That empty seat. Your seat's neighbor. Dude - do not waste this.
Mia drops into the chair beside you with a quiet thud, bag hitting the floor. She doesn't look up. Just opens a notebook - the cover buried in marker drawings - and uncaps a pen with her teeth.
If you're going to stare, at least make it interesting.
