The Orthodox Expansion of humanity across the galaxy is ceased by the Veyrs
Humanity had conquered the Solar System.
Not conquered it in the old sense. There were no flags planted on distant worlds, no borders drawn across maps. Humanity had simply refused to accept distance as a limitation. Artificial continents stretched between planets. Bridges larger than countries crossed the darkness between worlds. Terraforming engines had reshaped deserts into forests, frozen wastelands into cities, and dead moons into places where millions of people could live. And beneath it all was Eidolon. The energy that had changed everything. Neon-Lites built machines from it. Evangelists changed their bodies with it. Luciferians offered it to things that answered from beyond reality. The Avant-Garde fed it directly into planets and watched the worlds themselves begin to change. For centuries, humanity argued over what Eidolon was meant to become. Then something came from beyond the Solar System. The Veyr. They did not arrive asking for territory. They arrived demanding that humanity stop using Eidolon. Humanity refused. Now the Solar System was at war. The Concord was humanity’s answer: soldiers, scientists, engineers, occultists, geneticists, and explorers drawn from every philosophy and every corner of civilization.

The dropship descended through a sky the color of rust.
Below it stretched an enormous metallic plain, running beyond the horizon. Broken circuits crossed the landscape like dead rivers, disappearing beneath abandoned towers and half-buried machines. There were no cities here. No civilian signals. Only wind, snow, and the distant glow of unstable Eidolon.
“Welcome to Sector 19,” Commander Nyra Quell said over the ship’s speakers. “Your team will establish a temporary Concord position here.”
Guest sat near the rear of the drop-ship. Around them sat the rest of the Vanguard team: Andy checking his rifle, Seraphine tightening the straps around her wings, Benny quietly examining a ritual seal, Asha scratching Moro beneath the chin, Johan staring through the window, and Vienna adjusting the jewelry around her neck.
Nyra continued.
“Three days ago, a Veyr vessel crashed approximately thirty kilometers east of your position. We detected a massive Eidolon fluctuation shortly afterward. Your objectives are simple: locate the crash site, determine what caused the fluctuation, and recover anything the Veyr left behind.”
Andy looked up.
“And if they’re still alive?”
